Jeremiah2

What does pride in me look like?

My habitual proud self?

HOLD THAT THOUGHT . . .

This very interesting

passage is in Jeremiah

IMAGINE GOD HAVING

THIS 'conversation' with you . . . embedded in your own context, would you know what he was talking about?

Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.

And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,

Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

So I went, and hid it by Euphrates,

as the LORD commanded me.

And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.

Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing

HOW WELL DO I KNOW YOU?

Not very well?

God, however, knows me

even better than I know myself.

He asks us to submit ourselves

one to each other in love . . .

EPHESIANS 4

I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Amen

"As creatures, we have needs. We need to eat, and so we eat. As rather intelligent and social creatures, we like to chat with one another, and so we do.

We take turns and finish our conversations gracefully. And there are dozens and dozens more behaviors that are just as complicated, if not more so. How on Earth do we get all of this done?

That's where habits come in. Habits help us through our day. When we are doing something that is habitual, we are not engaged in the task in the same way as when we are doing something that is not habitual".  - PSYCHOLOGY TODAY QUOTE

Him

I'm not saying our doctor is irrelevant, I'm not saying our diet is irrelevant, I'm only saying what Jesus says

1. His will is abundant life

2. Satan's is kill & destroy

CHOOSE LIFE !!!

https://youtu.be/P9R-TDHvhfc

If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Little children, keep

yourselves from idols.

Amen.

Stones

MEANING - What meaneth these stones?

"Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day."

must we learn

before we teach?

Have you taught anything?

To think is to know how

To teach is to show how

THIS IS PURPOSE

1st to learn

Then to teach

Do I have any students, followers, disciples? Am I an influencer?

Or just a follower?

Get some disciples, some followers, a family maybe; THIS IS PURPOSE . . .

"because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

10The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

11The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

12And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

13Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil."

DIFFERENT TRUTHS?

"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'"

The world offers little guidance on finding real and lasting truth, but the Bible has much to say about it.

We live in a world that increasingly values subjectivity over objective truth. What is true for one person, says the world, may not be true for someone else.

DIFFERENT STROKES

"What may be right for you" . . . https://youtu.be/StIUGSk2-ps

Culture encourages people to discover their own truth, make conclusions based on their personal experiences, and promotes the message that each person is entitled to create and live by their own set of truths.

The world is constantly changing, but God remains the same. His truth has endured the history of humanity and is still true and valid

facter

Am I a "facter"

OR a believer?

ALL OF US WHO HAVE NO MICROSCOPES, WE ARE BELIEVERS, PERIOD!!

How upset would you be if I ask you when last you had a physical?

Would you also be upset if I asked when last you had a mental health evaluation?

Could you be delusional?

What if mental health and

'spiritual health' are not different?

CHECK THIS OUT . . .

Because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

These evil people who pretend to be what they are not (scientists) become worse than ever, as they fool others and are fooled themselves

Keep that which is committed to your trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called

DEFINITION: Religion = "a pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance"

AMPLIFIED: Be sure of this: no immoral, impure, or greedy person—for that one is [in effect] an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God [for such a person places a higher value on something other than God]

DONT

DONE: THE DOERS AND THE DEEDS

"do not be unwise, but understand

what the will of the Lord is"

a man leave his father and mother?

THE DOERS

it is shameful even to mention what is done by these disobedient people in secret.

THE DEEDS

Don't participate in the

things these people do.

TREACHERY

HOMOSEXUALITY

INFIDELITY

BETRAYAL

AMPLIFIED: Do not participate in the worthless and unproductive deeds of darkness, but instead expose them [by exemplifying personal integrity, moral courage, and godly character]

Goings

"be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."

I'm finding that kindness 101 is just acknowledging that a person is !!!

In his book "Games people play" Dr. Eric Berne speaks about "recognition hunger" as "the quest for special kinds of sensations which can only be supplied by another human being, or in some cases by other animals." This hunger is the recognition of self and others in relation to contact, ways of engagement, and belonging."

In this regard, Have we grown unkind as a culture? Social media, especially, has given us the option to IGNORE one another.

So have we become habitually discourteous?Where we used to say hi do we now just come and go ignoring each other?

TODAY I REPENT OF THIS

I will try to acknowledge

the people in my life.

Amen

"be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous"

COACHED

Aging = older

folk relearning

Who are your mentors?

people alive today who

YOU ALLOW

to speak to YOU and into YOU ON

A daily / weekly (REGULAR) BASIS?

people who see in YOU and show YOU things about yourself that YOU have not seen?

people who YOU allow to influence YOU by holding YOU accountable to fixed standards?

1st THE STANDARDS

THEN THE RESULTS

Hebrews 13:7, KJV: "Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God:

whose faith follow,

considering the end of their conversation." ... As you carefully observe the outcome of their lives, imitate their faith."

Always

Always

Always

Have the mindset to work by the standard not the outcome

You may not loose the weight

But you will definitely be healthier.

THE STANDARD: always walk

MINDSET: integrity with self 1st

MENTAL HEALTH MINISTRY

COVID - A blessing in disguise?

How common are mental illnesses?

Mental illnesses are among the most common health conditions in the United States.

More than 50% will be diagnosed with a mental illness or disorder at some point in their lifetime.3

1 in 5 Americans will experience a mental illness in a given year.4

1 in 5 children, either currently or at some point during their life, have had a seriously debilitating mental illness.5

1 in 25 Americans lives with a serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression.6

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major effect on our lives. Many of us are facing challenges that can be stressful, overwhelming, and cause strong emotions in adults and children. Public health actions, such as social distancing, are necessary to reduce the spread of COVID-19, but they can make us feel isolated and lonely and can increase stress and anxiety.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/managing-stress-anxiety.html

Would you show from the Bible . . . what is the difference between what the church does and social work or mental health?

Spiritual health is mental health?

Mental health, defined by the World Health Organization, is "a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community".Wikipedia

Positive mental health allows people to:

  • Realize their full potential
  • Cope with the stresses of life
  • Work productively
  • Make meaningful contributions to their communities

ThePoor

Let us give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. - PSALM 107

On this thanksgiving week let us also continue to remember our ministries to the poor . . .

HISTORICALLY A PRIMARY MINISTRY OF THE CHURCH

WAS HELPING THE POOR.

Could one argue biblically that the degree to which a society is plagued by problems of poverty is a direct reflection on Christian congregations?

Have we erroneously 'outsourced' this christian duty to 'the state'?

Is addressing poverty an

essential part of 'the gospel'?

JESUS talked about the rich man and Lazarus and about the Good Samaritan and He quotes Isaiah:

"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release from darkness to the prisoners - ISAIAH

Matthew 19:16-24 JESUS ASLO made this troubling comment during a conversation with a rich man who was a pretty good person

"I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."

It challenges our faith when we see the scale to which poverty exists.

We hear the talk about 'systemic injustice'. We are drawn into discussions about equity.

We see affluence in our christian communities and we sometimes wonder does our God care?

We have to trust that God is just . . . yet we see the many scripture references and wonder if we are missing something in our biblical understanding

JESUS MAKES THIS SO CLEAR

"When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
