HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUNTIE GRACE

TESTIMONY

Isaiah 41:6 They helped every one his neighbour; and every one said to his brother, Be of good courage.
10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.
13 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.
21 Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob.
22 Let them bring them forth, and shew us what shall happen: let them shew the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.

Cynicism?

Texting is the craze these days!

"In my short lifetime, comparatively speaking, I have died at least 104 times." This is a quote from a sixteen year old writing about "What reading means to me". From a computer guy's point of view it is simply a matter of 'input and output'.
Writing has now become my hobby. Back at age sixteen I too was 'gobbling' up the books. For some strange reason the hobby did not quickly translate into good grades. Notwithstanding, the excellent language abilities that resulted, have got me into many situations that I may not have otherwise experienced.

"The power of reading to me is the strongest power we have. It allows us to be people who we could never (otherwise) be." This is another line from this now famous sixteen year old. My echo from "the other side of the mountain" (so-to-speak) Is that writing must be the inseparable twin of reading. For how else would I be even thinking about this sixteen year old (now an adult). "WHAT READING MEANS TO ME" was written in December of 2001.

The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword

"The most important thing that reading does for me is show me how ignorant I truly am." continued the sixteen year old. "
It is a "ceaseless round" an endless cycle, this business of reading and writing. Someone wrote what you are reading, but who could write without first learning to read? "The day I learned to read was the day that I was brought out of the darkness into the light"

.....and now I can TEXT !

Everything is coming down to Georgia! <- Click here
Rasmussen reports that Georgia's U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss is clinging to a narrow lead of only four points in the runoff election scheduled for December 2nd.
With Republican Ted Stevens defeated for the Senate from Alaska and liberal Al Franken within two hundred votes of overtaking Norm Coleman with the Minnesota recount yet to even begin, the Chambliss seat is all that stands between Senate Democrats and 60 votes in the U.S. Senate.

With 60 votes, Obama and the Democrats will be able to overcome a filibuster and control the U.S. Congress completely.

A person experiencing decreased immune function is at increased risk of developing frequent colds, flus and cancer. With a compromised immune system, initially mild infections may become more serious. A person may be born with an immune system that produces low levels of antibodies in general, or the immune system may produce low levels of antibodies in response to certain diseases (like cancer).

1. THE TRUTH ABOUT THE FLU SHOTS, DO THEY WORK?

Several weeks ago I went to a local store and they were providing flu shots in the lobby. Last week I was in Chicago airport and they were giving shots at the airport. When I was at the store I asked if the shots contained mercury, the nurse assured me they did not. I then asked if I could look at the label. Sure enough each shot contains 25mcg's of mercury. It's amazing the nurse didn't even know what she was injecting.
Now the government is telling us another influenza season is beginning and the US Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will strongly urge Americans to get a flu shot. In fact, the CDC mounts a well orchestrated campaign each season to generate interest and demand for flu shots.
However in a recent study published in the October issue of the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine found that vaccinating young children against the flu appeared to have zero impact on flu-related hospitalizations or doctors visits during two recent flu seasons.......

2. VITAMIN D SUPPLEMENTS....CLICK HERE

Vitamin D, the "sunshine vitamin" may well be one of the most important vitamins there is for disease prevention. Unfortunately it's of the vitamins that a vast majority of people across the world are deficient in due to lack of regular exposure to sunshine. It seems that everyone uses sunscreen to try to avoid the sun.
Published in the journal Epidemiology and Infection in 2006, the hypothesis presented by Dr. John Cannell and colleagues in the paper Epidemic Influenza and Vitamin D actually makes a lot of sense.
They raise the possibility that Influenza is a symptom of vitamin D deficiency!

3. HOW TO STRENGTHEN YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

Immunoglobulins are one of the most important products of the immune system. Also known as antibodies, they are substances in your blood produced by the body's immune system. The basic function of immunoglobulins is to find and tag foreign substances (antigens) such as bacteria, viruses and other environmental pathogens. When an immunoglobulin attaches to the antigen, this prevents the antigen from finding its target rendering it inactive. For example, if the antigen bound by an antibody is a virus, the antibody can prevent the attachment of the virus to your cells. Likewise, binding of an antibody to a toxin prevents the uptake of the toxin by the body. In both examples, the antibody has effectively neutralized the foreign invader. Immunoglobulins can also tag the foreign substance with a coating so that it can be recognized as foreign; ingested by specialized white blood cells; destroyed; and presented on the surface of the white blood cells for recognition by other cells of the immune system. Unlike antibiotics, immunoglobulins also allow the immune system to specifically recognize foreign invaders while ignoring good bacteria that are part of the body's natural environment. What this means is that it can help stop a problem before it starts.

Christ would not vote?

In due course, Reverend Wright led Obama to Jesus Christ, ...In an address to a group of ministers in June, Obama described his personal relationship with Wright: “It was ... at Trinity United Church of Christ on the South Side of Chicago that I met Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., who took me on another journey and introduced me to a man named Jesus Christ. It was the best education I ever had.”

OBAMA on Church going...
You need to come to church in the first place precisely because you are first of this world, not apart from it. You need to embrace Christ precisely because you have sins to wash away - because you are human and need an ally in this difficult journey. It was because of these newfound understandings that I was finally able to walk down the aisle of Trinity United Church of Christ on 95th Street in the Southside of Chicago one day and affirm my Christian faith. It came about as a choice, and not an epiphany. I didn't fall out in church. The questions I had didn't magically disappear. But kneeling beneath that cross on the South Side, I felt that I heard God's spirit beckoning me. I submitted myself to His will, and dedicated myself to discovering His truth. That's a path that has been shared by millions upon millions of Americans - evangelicals, Catholics, Protestants, Jews and Muslims alike; some since birth, others at certain turning points in their lives. READ IT HERE
I want to give you an example that I think illustrates this fact. As some of you know, during the 2004 U.S. Senate General Election I ran against a gentleman named Alan Keyes. Mr. Keyes is well-versed in the Jerry Falwell-Pat Robertson style of rhetoric that often labels progressives as both immoral and godless. Indeed, Mr. Keyes announced towards the end of the campaign that, "Jesus Christ would not vote for Barack Obama. Christ would not vote for Barack Obama because Barack Obama has behaved in a way that it is inconceivable for Christ to have behaved." Jesus Christ would not vote for Barack Obama.

could heal rifts

Barack Obama should lead Middle East peace efforts, says Tony Blair
Tony Blair has called on Barack Obama to lead the world in finding a solution to conflict in the Middle East.

The former Prime Minister said the new President would have the chance to heal divisions in an 'era of real possibility'.
Speaking during a visit to Rwanda, Mr Blair said world leaders had been too tied up with their own domestic agendas to focus properly on the decades-old Middle East conflict.
He admitted that though he tried to influence the Middle East peace process while serving as Prime Minister, his efforts were doomed because he could not acquire the necessary detailed understanding of the issues.
And he said Mr Obama could heal rifts between America and Europe by being prepared to champion causes regarded as priorities in Europe such as the Middle East, poverty and the environment. - TELEGRAPH (click here for the rest of the story)

the meaning of the voice, v11

I do beleive that we are in "the eye" of the hurricane. I am glad that your barometer is reading the same. God gave us Brother Dixon and Brother Johnson and Elder Blythe, nothwithstanding, very early on in our lives as forerunners. I know that along with daddy we have been richly endowded to be watchmen in our generation....He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

Isaiah 21:12 The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come.
Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
1 Corinthians 14:8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle? 9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air. 10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification. 11 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me. 12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

Something uniquely SIGNIFICANT.

the oil and the wine and the bee

FULL STORY HERE
The theory is that radiation from mobile phones interferes with bees' navigation systems, preventing the famously home-loving species from finding their way back to their hives. Improbable as it may seem, there is now evidence to back this up.

Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), occurs when a hive's inhabitants suddenly disappear, leaving only queens, eggs and a few immature workers. The vanished bees are never found, but thought to die singly, far from home. The parasites, wildlife and other bees that normally raid the honey and pollen left behind when a colony dies, refuse to go anywhere near the abandoned hives.

CCD has since spread to Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece. And John Chapple, one of London's biggest bee-keepers, announced that 23 of his 40 hives have been abruptly abandoned.

The implications of the spread are alarming. Most of the world's crops depend on pollination by bees. Albert Einstein once said that if the bees disappeared, "man would have only four years of life left".

No one knows why it is happening. Theories involving mites, pesticides, global warming and GM crops have been proposed, but all have drawbacks.

German research has long shown that bees' behavior changes near power lines. Now a limited study at Landau University has found that bees refuse to return to their hives when mobile phones are placed nearby. Dr Jochen Kuhn, who carried it out, said this could provide a "hint" to a possible cause.

Revelation 6:6
Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

Although the Bible plainly speaks of great famine in the last days, the prophetic words of Revelation 6:6 states that the olive and grape harvest will not be damaged.

In general, breeders have assumed that grapes were either completely self- fertilizing or were cross-pollinated by wind, so that in either case insects were considered of no value. The grape harvest will not be affected by the missing bee population.

Bees and other insects play a minor role in olive pollination; wind moves most of the pollen from tree to tree. Most olive varieties are self-fertile, but increased production often results from cross pollination. And neither will the olive harvest be affected by CCD.

Grape and olive oil production will only be minimally impacted by Colony Collapse Disorder while much of the fruit, vegetable and nut production will be severely reduced resulting in famine. These end time biblical prophecies are coming to pass within our own lifetimes demonstrating once again that the Word of God is true and to be trusted.

Deception is creeping more and more into the lives of people without them even realizing it. Teachings far from what scripture teaches. She says 'God is a feeling experience, not a believing experience'. The Church of Oprah Winfrey is saying that there are other ways to heaven other than God. That is not what scripture says.
John 14:6, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."2 Timothy 4:3-4, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."

At a Democratic presidential forum on gay issues last year, the Washington Post's Jonathan Capehart prefaced a question to Sen. Barack Obama this way: "Now, you and I both know that there's a homophobia problem in the black community." Capehart seemed to suggest that he was disclosing a shared secret, but the belief that African Americans are disproportionately hostile toward gays and lesbians is widespread. That notion will be put to the test Nov. 4, when black voters in California -- expected to turn out in record numbers to support Obama -- also will face a proposition to put a ban on same-sex marriage in the state Constitution. The foregone conclusion, expressed by prominent gay journalist Andrew Sullivan and others, is that this means trouble for gay newlyweds.

the barometer

The story is told of a man living on Long Island who bought an expensive barometer. When he examined the instrument upon receiving it in the mail, he was disappointed to see that the needle was seemingly stuck while pointing to the part of the dial marked, hurricane. After trying to dislodge the needle with no success, he determined he would return the barometer along with a nasty letter to the company where he purchased the instrument. The next morning he hurried off to work in Manhattan, not thinking about the barometer again. That evening he returned to Long Island to find both the barometer and his house gone! There had been a hurricane!
The Word of God is pointing to an approaching event on the horizon and the needle is not moving.... Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

The Pilgrim's Progress from This World to That Which Is to Come by John Bunyan (published February, 1678) is a Christian allegory. It is regarded as one of the most significant works of English literature, has been translated into more than 200 languages, and has never been out of print.[1] - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The story is about a journey from the "City of Destruction" to the "Celestial City". Details of the TRIP include places along the way and people.

You and I could think about our life in a similar way. It is the people and places that make up events in our journey. It is in this kind of imaginative way that I was thinking about my "meeting" with Barry Obama this past week.

My first serious encouner was in the 'reading' of his book the Audacity of Hope. Barry became my friend. I like him a lot. He reminds me of another person that I "met" earlier on my journey, his name was Michael Manley. His book was called the Politics of Change.

In the Pilgrims Progress, After Christian is relieved of his burden, he is greeted by three shining ones, who give him the greeting of peace, new garments, and a scroll as a passport into the Celestial City.

After my meeting with "Mike", I 'met' another named Harvey Cox. He also had a huge influence on my journey. Through his book "The Secular City" I came to understand some of the ideas of James Cone who I came to find out also had a big influence on Barry. By the way, in a sense my school principal Zenas Gerig (Jamaica Theological Seminary) was somewhat instrumental in my introduction to both Karl Marx and James Cone. It was in the JTS library that I found a book called "Christianity and the Class Struggle" by Brown. I could not put that book down until I had read it from cover to cover. I never did get that Batchelor of Theology Degree....but those years marked a HUGE turning point in the journey.

Later, I had a fleeting encounter with this guy named Roger.(http://www.rogerwhittaker.com/bio.htm). I think he was from the secular city because he used to sing this song a lot. It stuck in my mind. I can still sing it almost word perfect.

Everybody talks about a new world in the morning.
A new world in the morning so they say.
I, myself don't talk about a new world in the morning.
A new world in the morning, that's today.

And I can feel a new tomorrow comin' on.
And I don't know why I have to make a song.
Everybody talks a bout a new world in the morning.
New world in the morning takes so long.

I met a man who had a dream he had since he was twenty.
I met that man when he was eighty-one.
He said too many people just stand and wait up til the mornin',
Don't they know tomorrow never comes.

And he would feel a new tomorrow coming on.
And when he'd smile his eyes would twinkle up in thought.
Everybody talks about a new world in the morning.
New world in the morning never comes.

And I can feel a new tomorrow coming on.
And I don't know why I have to make a song.
Everybody talks about a new world in the morning.
New world in the morning takes so long.

Along a rough stretch of road, Christian and Hopeful leave the highway to travel on the easier By-Path Meadow, where a rainstorm forces them to spend the night. In the morning they are captured by Giant Despair, who takes them to his Doubting Castle, where they are imprisoned, beaten and starved.

As the election campaigning continued Barry never ceased to draw out my greatest admiration and yet I decided to be a McCain supporter.

On the way, Christian and Hopeful meet a lad named Ignorance, who has the vain hope of entering the Celestial City even though he believes in work's righteousness. A ferryman named Vain Hope ferries Ignorance across the River of Death, only for Ignorance to be turned away from the gates of Celestial City and cast into hell.
Christian and Hopeful make it through the dangerous Enchanted Ground into the Land of Beulah, where they ready themselves to cross the River of Death on foot to Mount Zion and the Celestial City. Christian has a rough time of it, but Hopeful helps him over; and they are welcomed into the Celestial City.

The "meeting" with Alvin Toffler was by far the most compelling. Future Shock was that first encounter, followed by the Third Wave and then Power Shift which I am yet to complete.

Alvin Toffler (born October 3, 1928) is an American writer and futurist, known for his works discussing the digital revolution, communications revolution, corporate revolution and technological singularity. A former associate editor of Fortune magazine, his early work focused on technology and its impact (through effects like information overload). Then he moved to examining the reaction of and changes in society. His later focus has been on the increasing power of 21st century military hardware, weapons and technology proliferation, and capitalism. - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So what about my 'meeting' Barry ?
Well, as they say first impressions are lasting. When he was talking to me on that first encounter about hope, I got the distinct impression that he was more preaching to me than talking. It was later on when I 'met' Jeremiah, that I realised that Barry was in reality one of Jeremiah's disciples....and I deeply resented the idea that Barry publicly separated himself from Pastor Jerry. BTW Pastor Jerry was in my home town (Connecticut) this week (http://www.courant.com/news/politics/hc-wright1107.artnov07,0,1909962.story)

Time will tell. I still think of Barry as my dear friend. I am proud of him. I Must pray for him continually like Samuel prayed for King Saul who also turned out as the peoples choice...

1 Samuel 12 :1 And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you. 2 And now, behold, the king walketh before you:
Samuel wanted it clearly known that it was not his idea to appoint a king over Israel. This idea began in the hearts of Israel, not in the heart and mind of God. God allowed it, and directed its execution, but it was the voice of the people that prompted it.
13 Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the LORD hath set a king over you. 14 If ye will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the LORD your God: 15 But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers. 16 Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes.
22 For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people. 23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way: 24 Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you. 25 But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.

Evangelist meets Christian as he is walking out in the fields and directs him to the "Wicket Gate" for deliverance. Since Christian cannot see the "Wicket Gate" in the distance, Evangelist directs him to go to a "shining light," which Christian thinks he sees.
[4] Christian leaves his home, his wife, and children to save himself when his attempt to persuade them to go with him fails.

The Second Part of The Pilgrim's Progress presents the pilgrimage of Christian's wife, Christiana; their sons; and the maiden, Mercy. They visit the same stopping places that Christian visited, with the addition of Gaius' Inn between the Valley of the Shadow of Death and Vanity Fair; but they take a longer time in order to accommodate marriage and childbirth for the four sons and their wives. The hero of the story is Greatheart, the servant of the Interpreter, who is a pilgrim's guide to the Celestial City. He kills four giants and participates in the slaying of a monster that terrorizes the city of Vanity.
The passage of
years in this second pilgrimage better allegorizes the journey of the Christian life. By using heroines, Bunyan, in the Second Part, illustrates the idea that women as well as men can be brave pilgrims.

REFLECTION
...do you believe America should be a society where
moral judgments about social behavior are unacceptable.?

....while democrats are winning in California, voters were overturning
the gay marriage law imposed upon them by the court. (http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared-blogs/ajc/woman/entries/2008/07/11/was_the_califor.html)

....Has The motto at the heart of the American experiment "in God we trust" has been exchanged for "in Man we trust." ?

Hello Everyone,I don't normally do this, but since this is a very historic moment in history I am sending you a copy of the FIRST Family for your record. This has already altered the history books, and guess what were alive when it happened. Enjoy the beautiful portrait of the FIRST Family and do continue to pray for them. I did this morning and thought that this would be something that we do since the Bible talks about us praying for those who are in authority so that we could live good and peaceful lives. Do pray especially for the kids since there whole life will change, for Michelle since women can make or break a relationship, pray that God will give her the wisdom, insight and strength to be the best wife and mother given the stressful situation that they have now embarked on. He has promised always to help in ALL situations so I am not worried, but it is a call to those who know that he is young and just like David and Joseph he can use him.Regards,

Allan

PS. I am running for the secretary of education. LOL.
