God is the God of our yesterdays, and He allows the memory of them
to turn the past into a ministry of spiritual growth for our future.
God reminds us of the past to protect us from
a very shallow security in the present.
Our present enjoyment of God's grace tends to be lessened
by the memory of yesterday's sins and blunders.
God's hand reaches back to the past,
settling all the claims against our conscience.
...the Lord will go before you, and the God of
Israel will be your rear guard —Isaiah 52:12
"You shall not go out with haste . . . ." —Isaiah 52:12
As we go forth into the coming year, let it
not be in the haste of
impulsive thoughtlessness,
let us go out with the patient power of knowing
that the God of Israel will go before us. Our yesterdays
hold broken and irreversible things for us. It is true that
we have lost opportunities that will never return, but God
can transform this destructive anxiety into a constructive
thoughtfulness for the future. Let the past rest,
but let it rest in the sweet embrace of Christ.
Leave the broken, irreversible past in His hands,
and step out into the invincible future with Him.

the love
we have — for our children, for our families, for each other....that's
what should drive us forward in everything we do, for as long as God
sees fit to keep us on this Earth." "Let the little children come to
me," Jesus said, "and do not hinder them — for to such belongs the
kingdom of heaven." (Excerpts; President Obama At Sandy Hook Prayer
Vigil

CLOSURE
Transcript of President Obama's speech at the interfaith vigil in Newtown, Conn., Dec. 16 in honor of the victims of the shootings at Sandy Hill Elementary. Source: White House
Thank you. (Applause.) Thank you, Governor. To all the families, first responders, to the community of Newtown, clergy, guests — Scripture tells us: "...do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away...inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Romans 8:2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Romans 8:23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Colossians 2:11 In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ,

For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. Galatians 6:3

Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

Acts 14:22 strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. "We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God," they said.

1 Peter 3:9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 Peter 3:18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,

1 Peter 4:1 Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin.
