ThePoor

Let us give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. - PSALM 107

On this thanksgiving week let us also continue to remember our ministries to the poor . . .

HISTORICALLY A PRIMARY MINISTRY OF THE CHURCH

WAS HELPING THE POOR.

Could one argue biblically that the degree to which a society is plagued by problems of poverty is a direct reflection on Christian congregations?

Have we erroneously 'outsourced' this christian duty to 'the state'?

Is addressing poverty an

essential part of 'the gospel'?

JESUS talked about the rich man and Lazarus and about the Good Samaritan and He quotes Isaiah:

"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release from darkness to the prisoners - ISAIAH

Matthew 19:16-24 JESUS ASLO made this troubling comment during a conversation with a rich man who was a pretty good person

"I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."

It challenges our faith when we see the scale to which poverty exists.

We hear the talk about 'systemic injustice'. We are drawn into discussions about equity.

We see affluence in our christian communities and we sometimes wonder does our God care?

We have to trust that God is just . . . yet we see the many scripture references and wonder if we are missing something in our biblical understanding

JESUS MAKES THIS SO CLEAR

"When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

Common

FOR THE PEOPLE?

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him

The LORD frustrates the plans of the nations; He thwarts the devices of the peoples.

God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counseller.

I know the things that come into your mind, every one of them. You have multiplied your slain in this city, and ye have filled the streets thereof with the slain.

They imagined a mischievous device, which they are not able to perform.

Son of man, these are the men who plot evil and give wicked counsel in this city.

You shall know that I am the LORD: for ye have not walked in my statutes, neither executed my judgments, but have done after the manners of the heathen that are round about you.

I spake unto them of the captivity all the things that the LORD had shewed me

The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked

Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire

Amen

WarnThem

Do we have bible believing friends who have not known or forgotten Gods word and His will,

Then we should teach them or remind them or warn them.

Please prayerfully pass this on as necessary.
Blessings

__________

The Question Asked:
Did God give me a leader?

A pastor, a city councilor, a mayor, a senator, a congress one, a governor or a president?

Did God ask me to know them, to honor them to obey them and to support them with prayer?

GOD'S BIBLE IDEAS laws, rules commands, principles . . .

THE BIBLE SAYS:
we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men

Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.

For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus

know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves

Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God

Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account

Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
AMEN

Do we have a President now (today)? Do we have responsibilities to him as bible believers?

We do not know what will be after 1/21/21, but should we not continue to obey God?
