1. Unity of beliefs and practice - we have tried over the years to be in church on Sunday, so when the 10 o clock invitation came on Friday I immediately saw it as an 'affront' and I SAID to mom we can't go.
   
2. Mom went to EBC with Jo and Daleanne, perhaps in her mind she had planned to go to the "brunch"; if so I WAS NOT TOLD.
3. I went to the Salvation Army because the officers asked me to help with Sunday church. Seeing they are a much smaller group than Emmanuel and need our help more we've been helping.
4. I was called during service towards the end by mom and Steve, I texted my response that I was in church and asked Steve to get mom

2. When I was told Terry, Steve and Mitzie were all there My first thought was WHERE IS CATHERINE? So I texted her:

1. I'm now Conflicted - big time ! : FAMILY BRUNCH? at church time? At a bar/restaurant? At $15 per head? Did we pay our tithe? Did we all even go to church? . . . so yah I'm "a little miffed" - I HOPE I CAN UNDERSTAND

TAKE COURAGE FROM THIS DRAMATIC ESCAPE
1. THE PRESSURE OF PUSUIT: "the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea"

2. THE TORMENTING FEAR: "the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid."

3. ASKING FOR "GODS" HELP? "the children of Israel cried out unto the Lord."

4. THE TENDENCY TO COMPLAIN: "hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?"

5. BLAMING SHIFTING?: "Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness."

9. 'MIRACULOUS ACTIVITY': "the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them • the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 10. HOW GOD 'HANDLED THE ENEMY': "the Lord looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians, And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily • the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen • the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.

LOOKING IN . . . "the rulers of the darkness of this world" is how secret groupings are described. 

Being a part of some 'inner-circle' can provide a feeling of security. It can give a sense of having 'power over' situations which others outside 'the group' do not have.

In addition to reminding disciples that they are the "light of the world" scripture also informs us that we are in conflict with various "rulers of the darkness of this world".

Secrets can separate us; yet we like the the power of the exclusiveness that they give. Scripture invites us to "walk as children of light", to allow the freedom to 'fellowship':

"if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."

Abolitionism is a general term which describes the movement to end slavery. This term can be used formally or informally. In Western Europe and the Americas, abolitionism is a historical movement in effort to end the African and Indian slave trade and set slaves free. King Charles I of Spain, usually known as Emperor Charles V, was following the example of Louis X of France who abolished slavery within the Kingdom of France in 1315. He passed a law which would have abolished colonial slavery in 1542, although this law was not passed in the largest colonial states, and was not enforced.

In the late 17th century, the Roman Catholic Church, taking up a plea by Lourenço da Silva de Mendouça, officially condemned the slave trade, which was affirmed vehemently by Pope Gregory XVI in 1839.
