Cynicism?

Texting is the craze these days!

"In my short lifetime, comparatively speaking, I have died at least 104 times." This is a quote from a sixteen year old writing about "What reading means to me". From a computer guy's point of view it is simply a matter of 'input and output'.
Writing has now become my hobby. Back at age sixteen I too was 'gobbling' up the books. For some strange reason the hobby did not quickly translate into good grades. Notwithstanding, the excellent language abilities that resulted, have got me into many situations that I may not have otherwise experienced.

"The power of reading to me is the strongest power we have. It allows us to be people who we could never (otherwise) be." This is another line from this now famous sixteen year old. My echo from "the other side of the mountain" (so-to-speak) Is that writing must be the inseparable twin of reading. For how else would I be even thinking about this sixteen year old (now an adult). "WHAT READING MEANS TO ME" was written in December of 2001.

"The most important thing that reading does for me is show me how ignorant I truly am." continued the sixteen year old. "
It is a "ceaseless round" an endless cycle, this business of reading and writing. Someone wrote what you are reading, but who could write without first learning to read? "The day I learned to read was the day that I was brought out of the darkness into the light"

.....and now I can TEXT !
