It seems as if no one willingly or willfully does the wrong thing.

Most people will do some kind of mental gymnastics to 'sanitize' whatever choice is made.

We justify ourselves either before or after the fact.

We call these explanations, others call them excuses.

How can we help ourselves better understand the complexities of our choices?

There seems to be no easy answer.

Throughout human civilization various codes or standards of behavior have been used.

It is difficult, however, in our day to day lives, to tell what 'system' or

'moral code' may be in use by a given individual in any situation.

The mixing and merging of values is even further complicated by our inconsistencies.

We often use what has been described as situational ethics. So that we will make some

behavior 'wrong' in one situation and 'right' in another.

The Ten Commandments of the bible seems to be the universal

set  of 'guiding principles' for human behavior.

The Ten Commandments, or Decalogue, are a list of religious and moral imperatives that, according to the Hebrew Bible, were spoken by God (referred to in several names) to the people of Israel from the mountain referred to as Mount Sinai [2] or Horeb,[3] and later authored by God and given to Moses in the form of two stone tablets. They are recognized as a moral foundation in Judaism, Christianity and Islam.[4]

The United States spends nearly $68 billion on our prison system. Ever wonder what kind of return on investment those tax dollars earn?

This program is based on values reflected in the life and teachings of Jesus. (PRISON FELLOWSHIP)

Phase One: focuses on the prisoner's personal values and thought processes and encourages the development of spiritual and moral filters. A heavy emphasis on education, work and support helps create a new foundation for productive growth.
Phase Two: tests the inmate's value system in real-life settings and prepares him/her for life after prison. Inmates may spend much of the day in off-site prison work programs or involved in the reentry portion of the IFI curriculum.
Reentry Support: IFI participants are assigned volunteer mentors, who continue to provide encouragement and support after their return to the community.

Ninety-four percent (94%) of American teenagers DO NOT believe in moral absolutes. (Barna Update, February 12, 2002 [www.barna.org])

Faced with the "moral crisis" what do our mayors and city officials say? "

Add more law enforcement officers…build more jails."
