RAMBLING... tomorrow

Tomorrow is my wife's birthday. She like Queen Elizabeth has two birthdays the other was on January first.... February is a heavy month for me. Anniversay on the 23rd ..then there is Valentines the 14th which BTW is also my sister's birthday...then there is BLACK HISTORY MONTH especially in this OBAMIC year ! !......those pictures were awesome, thanks again especially Grace and Lennon and Loma. (PICTURES HERE)

Kirk Cameron is a very interesting life.
Last night we watched "FIREPROOF" the movie from blockbuster.
it was unusual for the kids and the parents to be watching together.
...especially MOM....she was tired from doing a double shift...it was a rare moment.. we watched TOGETHER. .....the movie is a blessing you should try to watch it too.

I had bought a DVD set of "growing pains" a while ago...so the children knew Kirk Cameron.

Tomorrow is also the superbowl...my first superbowl party was at a bar somewhere in the hills north of New York city. I had not the least interest in the game. I had come under the influence of a bunch of foul-mouthed, beer-drinking, __ _ _ -smoking, party animals...enough said.... ..anyhow, the point of the STORY is : you can be influenced by the wrong crowd.

Tomorrow my old friend and mentor, George will celebrate his 100th birthday.
Last night when I told the family that George taught me how to sing they thought it was a joke...you may think so too, but it is true. I used to like to tinker with stuff when I was growing up. During my tinkering times, I discovered radio. I have never lost the fascination with sounds...from afar....voices from beyond. It is in that way that I learned to listen. Across the years I have "met" and been influenced by many great minds through radio. Form the early years I remember the deep voice of Earl Nightingale as it boomed over the waves from RJR ...i beleive..the progrm was called 'our changing world'. Other favorites: the Rev. Oswald Hoffman on sunday morning again I think on RJR with "Bringing Christ to the Nations". By far the favorite was Billy Graham with "The Hour of Decision". I don't think we ever missed that program at our house in Hampton Street. In the later years whenever i would get a chance to preach on youth sunday etc, I would always imagine myself speaking with the voice of Billy Graham...using his phrases like "the bible says"....etc.
We eventually had a chance to see Billy and George in person when they came for a crusade to the National Stadium in Kingston. The unforgettable voice.... CLICK HERE FOR NEWSTORY

"then sings my soul my savoir God to Thee,
How great thou art, how great Thou art ! !"

We also had the opportunity to sing with the mass choir in that great Stadium as night after night many would stream out of the stands onto the huge field to the alter in response to the message. It was during that time that we had to learn at choir practice in our local church on East Street...I think sister Lettman may have been in charge...we learned the words of this song that has stayed with me across the years...and helped me in many a desparate time...I will try to type it now from memory....

Spirit of God descend upon my heart
Ween it from earth, through all it's pulses move;
Stoop to my weekness, mighty as Thou art
And make me love Thee as I ought to love

As Thou not bid me love Thee God and King,
All, all Thine own; soul, heart and strength and mind;
I see Thy cross, there teach my heart to cling,
O, let me seek Thee, and O, let me find.

Teach me to love Thee as the angels love
One holy passion filling all my frame,
The Baptism of the heaven descended dove
My heart an alter, and your LOVE the flame.

THIS FROM A FAMILY AT OUR CHURCH NOW ON THE MISSION FIELD

Dear Pastor, Church family and friends;

We bring greeting to you in the name of our Lord and savior Jesus
Christ. We are all doing fine and continue to labor in the ministry. We
thank you all for your continued prayer and support.

One of the reason for me to write this news letter today is for Kiran
who is 21 years old youth leader form our church.Kirans's parents are
also members of our church for more than 5 years now. Kiran met with an
accident 8 weeks ago. He hit a curb and was thrown off his bike.Kiran's
friend who was riding with him was not hurt in the incident. At first
his wounds did not seem to be serious, but unfortunately there was
severe internal bleeding. As we live in a smaller city with not much
medical help, he had to be rushed to Hyderabad 200 miles away to see a
specialist. We were informed in Hyderabad that his kidney has been
serious damaged but there was a good chance for it yo recover. But on
Monday were told that the kidney has completely failed to recover in the
8 weeks since the incident.
But the unfortunate part of all this is that kiran by birth has been
born with only one kidney. He is going through dialysis ever other day.
His mother has volunteered to donate him with a kidney, but first she
has to be tested and she will be a good match for him. Please pray for
this Young man and his family that the Lord will heal him and give his
family the comfort that they need during this difficult time.

Jeremiah 17:14  Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I
shall be saved: for thou art my praise.

Don't get me wrong...

It was indeed an historic moment this past wednesday.
This morning I beleive the sunday school teacher got it right.
That's why I don't like to miss sunday school....

James 4 was where we were....

The excitment about a black president is overwhelming.

the christian, however cannot be swept away in the moment.
This president CANNOT deliver the goods......UNLESS

1. God....
2. God...
3. God...

you get the drift....so you the christian will support him the president with your prayers...RIGHT !!??

just the bright ideas, the historic moment and soaring rhetoric will accomplish NOTHING.

BLESSED IS THE NATION WHOSE GOD IS THE LORD....
RIGHTEOUSNESS EXALTS A NATION but...
SIN IS A REPROACH TO ANY PEOPLE (black or white)

RE-READ this also take another look at the book of Jeremiah..pray before you read...he will show you
your role as a christian is prophetic...like Isaiah, and Jeremiah, Elijah and John the baptist and them....we are of that same ilk....we must remind the (sheeple) people around us that ONLY GOD is in control and HIS son Jesus....we must ALWAYS be ready to HATE and CONDEMN sin in no uncertain terms....but to love the sinners is a direct command from GOD....we must Obey.
AMEN.

Jerome was in today's observer for his exploits over the weekend. Here is the article. Jamaicans shine in US collegiate leagues
Wednesday, January 21, 2009

Jamaican basketballers Samardo Samuels, Jerome Jordon, Daniel Rose and Karim McFarlane all had major impacts for their teams in US Collegiate basketball competition at the weekend.
University of Tulsa's Jordon and Notre Dame's McFarlane, both junior centres, were the most impressive performers, scoring career-highs 25 and 26 points, respectively, in their team's victories. The 7'0" former Jamaica College player, Jordon who also posted 10 rebounds in his team's 69-50 win over Marshall University, reached double figures in the first eight minutes and had 16 points by half-time.
He had seven-of-12 from the field and 11-of-12 from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, McFarlane helped Notre Dame maintain their unbeaten start from four games with his impressive total against the Ohio Dominicans in their 79-67 home win in the American Mideast Conference (AMC) on Saturday.
The former St George's College and Urban Knights players has now scored 20 points or more in eight games, with his previous high being 25 points, though he holds two 24-points performance as well. Meanwhile, another Jamaican, Daniel Rose, also impressed as Cedarville University maintain their 20-match unbeaten record in the NAIA Division Two on Sunday.
Rose came off the bench and scored 18 points with a game-high nine rebounds to lead Cedarville to a 79-67 win over Malone. The former Buckfield United star also scored the tying basket for Cedarville, bagging eight of their final 14 points. In a Big East clash between rivals Louisville and Pittsburg University on Saturday, freshman centre Samuels gave an electrifying second-half performance for Louisville, who ended No 1 team, Pittsburg's perfect start to the season with a 69-63 victory.
Samuels posted 10 points and seven rebounds as the Cardinals registered thier first win over a No 1 side since 2003.

I most definately do not beleive in coincidences.....
I met a woman for the first time on friday night last.
I met her at a co-workers house.
I thought I was going by to get a copy of the Obama inauguration removed from my hard drive onto a DVD. I just had not quite figured out how to get a 21 gigabyte file onto a 4.7 G DVD. It turned out that he would not be able to do it and asked me to come by again on saturday. In the wee hours of saturday morning the solution hit me. I got up, went to my PC and had the DVD burned in no time. Six hours on one DVD !!!

Anyhow, you know I just cannot pass up an opportunity to tell a story..... (I am a Garrison Keillor fan too)

This person that I met - about 20 miles from ny home - lives six houses away from my house, yet we had never met!
Her daughter had LUPUS.
It was so bad, she the mother, had to give the daughter one of her Kidneys.
The daughter is now over twenty years old.
This happened over six years ago.....the child is thoroughly cured !
The doctors were amazed !!

I will put the word out to the prayer group.

Tolerance, not intolerance

1 Samuel 8 >>
1 And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel. 2 Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba. 3 And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, 5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. 6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD. 7 And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. 8 According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee. 9 Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and show them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.
10 And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked of him a king. 11 And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots. 12 And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots. 13 And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers. 14 And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants. 15 And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants. 16 And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work. 17 He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants. 18 And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day.
19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us; 20 That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles. 21 And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD. 22 And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

The clergy were Protestant, and so was the new head of state. But the inauguration Tuesday of President Barack Obama aimed for a much broader audience: an increasingly diverse America, where people want their beliefs acknowledged in the nation's most important ceremony. In his address, Obama referred to God and Scripture, saying, "the time has come to set aside childish things," from 1 Corinthians.
But he also reached out to American secularists, calling the United States, "a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus — and nonbelievers." The Center for Inquiry and the Council for Secular Humanism, based in Amherst, N.Y., called recognition in the inaugural address "truly historic and remarkable."
Evangelical pastor Rick Warren, whose participation drew criticism from liberals and gay rights groups, directly invoked Jesus as expected in his invocation, but did so personally.
"I humbly ask this in the name of the one who changed my life," he prayed.
He also quoted from the most important prayer in Judaism, the Sh'ma, when he said, "Hear O Israel, the Lord is our God. The Lord is One," and he called God "the compassionate and merciful one," a phrase from Muslim devotion.
"His was as inclusive a prayer as an evangelical can give," said Richard Mouw, president of Fuller Theological Seminary, a leading evangelical school in Pasadena, Calif.
The Rev. Joseph Lowery, a United Methodist considered the dean of the civil rights movement, focused on poverty and social justice.
"Lord, on the complex arena of human relations, help us to make choices on the side of love, not hate. On the side of inclusion, not exclusion. Tolerance, not intolerance," he said.
He called the stage where Obama took his oath "this mountaintop," a reference to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s final speech. Lowery also quoted from the song known historically as "The Negro National Anthem."
"God of our weary years, God of our silent tears," he said, at the start of his benediction.
Prayers at inaugural ceremonies generally draw little attention, but this year was different. Obama spoke of his faith openly during the election, trying to change the image of the Democratic Party as hostile to religious voters. He has also welcomed nonbelievers, who tend to vote Democratic, in his speeches and public appearances since his earliest days of campaigning.
His supporters had been deeply upset by the prominence of the Christian right during the administration of President George W. Bush, and they watched to see what religious signals Obama would send at his swearing-in.
Warren is a Southern Baptist who wants to broaden the evangelical agenda to include environmental protection, fighting poverty and ending AIDS. He also backed Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in his home state of California. Gay rights advocates and liberals were outraged that Obama had given Warren a place of honor at the ceremony.
Obama, who prays with Warren, said he wanted the event to reflect diverse views and insisted he remains a "fierce advocate" of equal rights for gays. The new president had also asked Bishop Gene Robinson of New Hampshire, the first openly gay Episcopal bishop, to give the opening prayer Sunday at the inaugural-kickoff event at the Lincoln Memorial.
In his invocation Tuesday, Warren did not refer to the controversy. However, he asked God to forgive "when we fail to treat our fellow human beings and all the Earth with the respect that they deserve." He also prayed for "civility in our attitudes, even when we differ."
Warren said Jesus' name in four languages — English, Spanish, Arabic and Hebrew — and ended his invocation with "The Lord's Prayer," from the Sermon on the Mount.
Rabbi Gary Greenebaum, who leads interreligious outreach for the American Jewish Committee, called Warren's invocation "inclusive even as it was slightly exclusive," for praying in Jesus' name and ending with "The Lord's Prayer."
"I don't think the language of the prayer itself is offensive, but the context of the prayers, coming from Christian Scripture, is somewhat exclusive," Greenebaum said.
Some atheists and agnostics had sued unsuccessfully ahead of the swearing-in to keep references to God out of the event.
Obama began the day at St. John's Episcopal Church, where presidents since 1933 have prayed before being sworn in. Several evangelical clergy spoke at the service, including the Rev. Luis Leon and the Rev. Joel Hunter of Northland church in Longwood, Fla. Bishop T.D. Jakes, a Dallas megachurch pastor, gave the sermon.
Mouw said the day sent a clear message: A liberal Democrat can be pious, and in the Obama administration, faith will have a place.

Subject: The Inauguration
I'm burning with anticipation of Barack Obama's inauguration, deep down I am still cautiously optimistic;  I don't think I'll be completely at ease until I'm satisfied that he has been sworn in and even then it still may take a couple of weeks to sink in. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and praying that he gets through this in one piece.

I know that even while I'm writing this email to you there are still forces at work that would do just about anything to stop this from happening, and would kill him in a heart beat if given the chance. Lets treat this as if we are close to the end of the struggle but not that the struggle is over. We still have a lot to prove and a far way to go, the division has been long and wide it will invariably take a bit more than just one of us being elected "President" to heal all the wounds. Please remember Barack in your prayers let us pray that he serve with distinction as usual we will have to be ten times as good as the other guy to get the recognition he gets. Thanks for reading my ramblings.

I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon; before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.
Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60 &70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love ... I will.

They, too, will get old. I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things.
Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect. (RAMBLING)
I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.
As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.
So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day(if I feel like it).
MAY OUR FRIENDSHIP NEVER COME APART ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART!
MAY YOU ALWAYS HAVE A RAINBOW OF SMILES ON YOUR FACE AND IN YOUR HEART FOREVER AND EVER! FRIENDS FOREVER!

Heroes of the faith - Part II

This is my Pastor of some of my teen years. He was a holiness preacher. He was a very strong male role model. Some of us kids did not like the Holiness Doctrines that we were taught at our church growing up. Those same doctrines, however have been like seeds planted; we have reaped benefits many times over, some of us have seen the folly of our youthful rebellion...for the most part today we teach and pass on those same lessons -of modesty especially- to our children.

I was greatly influenced by Elder Blythe's life and teaching....and yet he was not as greatly admired by some. He was not perfect. I remember him couselling me through a major crisis in my young adult years. I was witnessing one of the greatest losses in my life...my closest friend at the time seemed at a point of absolute betrayal..this dear Elder took me aside and comforted me...pointed me to the God of all comfort....I do beleive that today he and my dad and the others are having a great time.

One of the church hymns I remember Elder singing a lot, says this in the refrain:
"Then forward still tis Jehovah's will
Though the billows dash and spray
With a conquering tread
We will push ahead and roll the sea away.!!"

=================

This is another Holiness Preachers son who is today himself a Pastor. Pastor Sam stands out in my memory most not because of his great personality or his firey preaching or his brilliant mind, all of which are a great blessing to many. The picture that has not left my mind across these many years is Young Sam standing beside his mom over the casket of the beloved husband and father. I never forgot the words of the song they were singing .... to this day it plays back in my mind in many a dark moment...here are the words as best I recall...

Though the angry surges roll

O'er my temptest driven soul

I am peacful for I know

Wildly though the billows roll

I've an anchor safe and sure

That will ever more endure

And it holds my heavenly anchor holds

Blow your wildest then O gale

O'er my barque so small and frail

It will never, never fail...for my anchor holds...MY ANCHOR HOLDS !!!

I had not heard that song before that day....I have never forgotten it !!

I met Maxine Last year for the first time. She held my attention for close to if not more than an hour. Her's was a story of perseverance. A bitter sweet tale of success and sorrow.....yet I was very encouraged. It was the same day that I met Peter and Dave. The occasion could have been just a sad time because we met in a hospital waiting room....but we .....all cousins....passed the time telling our stories of the old days in Jamaica. We shared some of our future hopes and promised to stay in touch. So far we have kept the connection....nothing like the family bond....Maxine is Man man's daughter...how well she reminded me of the old days in west Kingston and the good times with Auntie Mercy. God bless the memories.
