Malachi 3:3 says:

"He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver."

This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God.

One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.

That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver.

As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says:
"He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver."

She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.

The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?"

He smiled at her and answered,

"Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it."

If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has His eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

Pass this on right now. This very moment, someone needs to know that God is watching over them. And whatever they're going through, they'll be a better person in the end.

disolving my civil union

Psalm 119:1 Blessed are those whose lives have integrity, those who follow the teachings of the LORD.
2 Blessed are those who obey his written instructions. They wholeheartedly search for him.
3 They do nothing wrong. They follow his directions.
4 You have commanded that your guiding principles be carefully followed.
5 I pray that my ways may become firmly established so that I can obey your laws.
6 Then I will never feel ashamed when I study all your commandments.
7 I will give thanks to you as I learn your regulations, which are based on your righteousness.
8 I will obey your laws. Never abandon me.

Just as listening does not guarantee hearing
so looking does not guarantee seeing.

there is a section of the word that says
Hear and your soul shall live and Jesus
said we do not just live by food but
by words that come from God.

I have heard a lot of talk about world view

I am chastised for airing dirty laundry....
talking about things of which I should be ashamed.

I find myself trafficking in unusual ideas
a peddler of strange thought

the employ of metaphor and parable and parody
have been the way of communicators

seeing is beleiving is the common way of the world
unless you beleive you cannot see is what Jesus said

The bible says fools despise instruction...
and we know that instuction may come through
any channel..in the movie "SWING VOTE"..for example, the little girl
Molly seemed to be instructing her father constantly
to behave himself decently. A family makes a decision to use church
time for other purposes on a regular basis. The little children immediately
pick up on the inconsistency, and start to suggest all kinds of creative
ways to "solve the problem". Indeed we will find God instructing us
through a variety of circumstance.

The letter kills, and can destroy relationships. Jesus made what seems
to be a startlimg statement in Matthew 10:34
34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

It is the spirit that teaches, that informs and transforms and gives life
How dare you think that you can tell me what to do?....we hear it all the time.
Who said that God invented marriage?
Down with marriage !!!
up with civil unions...the state is God !!!
That's what we hear a lot in our brave new world
ONE NATION UNDER MAN !!!
the spirit of antichrist is what the bible calls it

a boy named john

The following is a sample of what the leader of the company I work for actually sends to ALL employees...maybe thats where I got the rambling idea from...but can you see how my ramblings are a bit more strenuous on the mind...I am not a CEO anyhow...well maybe not...CEO of the CHRONICLE..how about that

Musings from your CEO … 2007 Issue 28 October 8 – 12

To Everyone:

Well I decided to do an unofficial survey and see if folks could get through a week or more without hearing from me! No great surprise but it seems like we are all so busy that reading one less email a week is no cause for concern...

Honestly, I have been super busy and feeling a bit burned out, with nothing terribly interesting to say. My travels have not taken me to our operations so I have not had a chance to catch up with any of you personally.

It has also been a bad week for heroes, with Ms. Jones a fabulous runner, finally coming clean about her juiced performance as a star at the Olympics, and professional coaches "cheating" by stealing defensive signals. I guess the most disturbing part to me has been the number of folks who seem to condone the behavior and say that it is all about winning not playing by the rules!

I recently read a letter to the editor in Time magazine. The letter was about a team that chose to forfeit a win and their championship in football when they realized that they had been inadvertently given 5 downs in a series. When they realized it they voted to give up the championship; those guys were real heroes and sportsmen in my book, unfortunately it happened more than 50 years ago!

October is half over and when I look at one of my goals for 2007, I realize that I have a very long way to go if I have any hope of visiting even half of our offices this year! I am disappointed but feel it's still a worthy goal (and one that gets tougher every year with our growth).

Thanks to those of you who sent me a note on Boss's day. I hope to hear from you on other days as well!

See you soon?

Scapbook

....But as a black woman, I have witnessed the outrage of girlfriends when the ex failed to show up for his weekend with the kids, and I've seen the disappointment of children who missed having a dad around. Having enjoyed a close relationship with my own father, I made a conscious decision that I wanted a husband, not a live-in boyfriend and not a "baby's daddy," when it came my time to mate and marry.
My time never came.
For years, I wondered why not. And then some 12-year-olds enlightened me.
"Marriage is for white people."

Things are not going well for the car. Some of those things could be repaired, but for a number of reasons I just let them go. Why? First, it runs okay without the repairs. Second, the repairs are
costly. Third, compared to other cars on the road the Celica still looks pretty good on the outside. Fourth, I doubt if anyone will notice if I make the repair or not. I’ve learned to work around the quirks in the car. Sometimes when someone is riding in the car with me I feel like I need to explain the problems to my new passenger. In reality, the passengers probably couldn’t care less, but because the car is so excellent on the outside, I feel the need to justify what is going on internally. So what’s wrong?....CLICK HERE FOR THE REST OF THE STORY

Missing Fathers "A house without a father is a challenge. A neighborhood without fathers is a catastrophe."
—Bill Cosby

==========================================

In an era where love is the hot stuff in movies between unmarried couples, and marriage is the institution being abandoned in favor of cohabitation, seeing such a high-profile married couple who genuinely love each other is an epiphany for some. In recent weeks, some notable people have voiced their belief that the First Couple's example could launch a new appreciation for marriage, particularly in the African-American community.
A recent article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution brought out the fact that the rate of marriage among black adults is one third less than that of whites and Hispanics. Kids growing up in this culture are beginning to consider that "marriage is for white people." That's an observation expressed by Georgia's black Supreme Court chief justice

“I was really excited when I saw the Obama family on the [TV] screen [on Nov. 4] because I meet so many young African-Americans who, frankly, have never seen an intact family like this,” said Leah Ward Sears, chief justice of the Georgia Supreme Court and a board member of the Institute for American Values, which promotes marriage. “I’m hopeful [the Obamas] will be a brand-new model of what the ideal is, even if many, many of us will fall short of the ideal,” she added.

Our culture could stand to be reminded that marriage is the lifelong union of a man and women growing together in oneness. It will be interesting to see if the candidate who campaigned on a theme of change will see some of that change come about as a natural result of his commitment to his marriage. pictures from ALOMA MARTIN article from FAMILY LIFE TODAY

You already know about the heart-healthy effects of red wine, but new studies at Harvard Medical School and the Institute of Genetics and Molecular Biology have found that Resveratrol, a natural compound found in the skin of red grapes and hence in red wine, may radically reduce the risk not only of heart disease but also age related illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease. It might also counter the effects of a high-fat diet and even prolong life. CLICK HERE

Courage and Fear
A good friend of mine once asked me how could something that is wrong feel so right.

Back in those days... when I knew the answer to everything... I thought it was simple
YOU CAN'T FOLLOW YOUR FEELINGS !!! RIGHT ???

Yup....and then you stop living....the temptation....why not live a little?

It is the difference between fear and courage....I am afraid to be tempted....because I give in so easy and have failed so often...
so I become am locked away in a cave...afraid !!!....withering away on the vine.

the way is narrow and so few find it...GET OUT OF THE CAVE !!!
bbbut...I'm scared !!!!
DO IT AFRAID...that is courage - (Joyce Meyer)

We are called to courage and not to fear.
I must get out of the cave and look the world square in the eye
I must engage the culture...be tempted and resist...be strong
If it feels good to fail by the enticements of life
It feels even better to overcome.

PRAYERS - from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, (we used this in elementary school - Central Branch Primary)

FOR FIDELITY

Teach us, good Lord, to serve thee as thou deservest; to give and not to count the cost; to fight and not to heed the wounds; to toil and not to seek for rest; to labour and not to ask for any reward, save that of knowing that we do thy will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FOR GOD'S HELP

Grant us, O Lord, in all our duties thy help, in all our perplexities thy counsel, in all our dangers thy protection, and in all our sorrows thy peace; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.
Grant to us, Lord, we beseech thee, the spirit to think and do always such things as are right; that we, who cannot do any thing that is good without thee, may by thee be enabled to live according to thy will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FOR GOD'S PROTECTION

O Almighty and most merciful God, of thy bountiful goodness keep us, we beseech thee, from all things that may hurt us; that we, being ready both in body and soul, may cheerfully accomplish those things which thou commandest; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We beseech thee, Almighty God, look upon the hearty desires of thy humble servants, and stretch forth the right hand of thy Majesty, to be our defence against all our enemies; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

And, in all trials or trouble, bethink you
The watchword of life must be--Never give up!

Martin Tupper was born in 1810 the son of a doctor with a prosperous practice in the West End of London. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford, and it was there he began his life-long friendship with the future PM, W E Gladstone. Their correspondence and the twenty-five scrapbooks which Tupper compiled formed the basis of Derek Hudson's book MARTIN TUPPER His Rise and Fall', published in 1949, to which I am indebted.

At Oxford Tupper was already an ardent Evangelical and hoped to make a career in the Church. But he suffered from a stammer which remained with him until he was about 35 when he cured it, according to his own notes, by constant prayer. Dr Tupper hoped his son would make a career in law, but after several years spent in chambers this idea was also abandoned. Already married and with the first of a large family to provide for, Tupper lived in a small house in London largely dependent on the generosity of his father.

grACE GRACE AND MORE GRACE -Joyce Meyer

it turns out that I am an even greater hypocrite than you originally thought.

without the sordid details suffice it to say that it was good that I could 'see' myself.
so anyhow, clinging to my (religion) faith was the only way out of a very embarassing jam.

THIS IS IT:
A. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.

B. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16

I am not saying that I am that righteous man, In my opinion I am still struggling through point A. ....but you bet your sweet life that I am heading to point B....in fact God sees me through.

we had this huge drop down drag out shouting match, complete with all kinds of name-calling, charges, counter-charges etc. the type of stuff you see in the comic strips as @!$%^$##(*@ !!~>/*&* !!...strange enough I was listening or maybe....I think spirit just allowed me to hear one remark that settled the whole thing for me...I was glad there were no kids around....this would have been a real bad example....but as fights go I have got to say this one was not as bad as some in the past. For instance, there was no hitting....that is HUGE !!!!...I seriously doubt that there was any sinful anger (Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:..Ephesians 4:26)

so back to what I heard in the thick of the battle, threats were made about getting rid of things etc but the phrase "we will be together" stuck out like a HUGE FLASHING NEON LIGHT, like the jumbotron in New York on election night!!!

I sped off to work, shaken, late, but amazed at the kind of stuff that God can pull off.
Is the problem solved, nope....not quite yet...but faithful is He who called me, He also will Do IT !!!

Then at work two females that work by my cubicle were discussing weight-loss. Why did I dip in....I guess because I am a bigger fool than I usually admit....so anyhow I up and quoted Leviticus about not eating fat or blood products....they both descended on me as if on cue saying don't even mention the bible....because the bible contradicts itself !!

I was caught off guard....

I told them they could not truthfully say that because they had not studied the bible.

SO WHAT ABOUT ME...and you???

As for me what I have found is that most of the time the bible CONTRADICTS.....

ME.....that is when I confess my sins and accept HIS righteouness.

AMEN

thanks Loma, we needed this.

Ephesians 5:15
When life is hard and payday is still so far away and when the salary comes, it's not enough there is only one thing to do; God says the struggle is over for you.

If you believe  this, forward to 5 people.
Don't ignore, God could be testing YOU.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain

Ephesians 5:15 encourages us to 'be very careful how you live, making the most of your time.' Each and everyone of us is going through tough times right now, but God is getting ready to bless you in a way that only He can.

Keep the faith. My instructions were to pick four (4) people that I wanted God to bless, and I picked you. Please pass this to at least four (4) people you want to be blessed and a copy back to me.

This prayer is powerful, and prayer is one of the best gifts we receive. There is no cost but a lot of rewards. Let's continue to pray for one another.

Father, I ask You to bless my friends, relatives and those that I care deeply for, who are reading this right now. Show them a new revelation of Your love and power. Holy Spirit, I ask You to minister to their spirit at this very moment. Where there is pain, give them Your peace and mercy. Where there is self doubt, release a renewed confidence through Your grace. Where there is need, I ask you to fulfill their needs. Bless their homes, families, finances, their goings and their comings. In Jesus ' precious name. Amen.

If the Lord lays upon your heart to send this to more than four (4)  people, you are truly blessed.

Jakes and 'maleness'

There is no shortage of femininity in the world.
The western world in particular prides itself on the "liberation" of its women.

This ancient biblical question, however, seems still today, mostly unanswered in the minds of many.

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? Psalm 8:4.....and

Why is The God of the bible presented as a Father? a male!

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

I am sure that the original context did not involve some of the contemporary gender issues, but I want to use the question as a starting point in your discussion of this thorny issue 'mutilated maleness'.

The images of manhood that are portrayed in most of our television characters tend to be less than ideal. The role of fathers is often ridiculed.

Author Steve Biddulph asks the question :
Is there something fundamentally wrong with male sexuality -- or have we just not learned to handle it?

in another part of the article he states...That the development of mature, loving men, requires some deliberate help and training during the first two decades of a man's life, and that this process frequently does not take place.

QUESTIONS TO MEN.

Do you find it difficult to express how you feel and what you need in your personal relationships?

Do you have trouble communicating and developing relationships with other men?

Does the weight of responsibility drag you down?

Do you wonder why it seems difficult to get the support and encouragement you need from your wife?

Do you often feel that there is a stronger, more effective leader inside you waiting to be developed?

Do you wonder what God's plan is for you?

In his book HEMOTIONS, T.D. Jakes comments that maleness is not easily understood.

In times like these, when men, particularly Black men, are presented with weak and limited images of themselves from the media or vilified by women who’ve grown cynical as a result of indiscretions, the album is a wonderful message to men of empowerment and hope for a brighter and better day. He-Motions is a carefully crafted album designed to nurture relationships between ‘brothers’ and the people in their lives.

.....And ladies, He-Motions is also for you. Inspirational and refreshingly honest, this is the ultimate source for women seeking to comprehend and care for the men in their lives. It helps you decode men's often baffling behavior and provides eye-opening insights for greater intimacy and healing in your relationships.

He-Motions brings clarity and hope to men and helps them strengthen their relationships with themselves, with the women in their lives, and with their Lord. It gives women the solutions they seek as they relate to the men they love.

HEMOTIONS - It is a book that will bring you closer together and closer to God.

MALE issues are not new....listen to Saint Paul.....a while ago
For though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 1 Corinthians 4:15

I think of "biblical maleness" or biblical fatherhood as the place to begin to understand God and man and women !!!

Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary
Ps103:6-14 Truly God is good to all: he is in a special manner good to Israel. He has revealed himself and his grace to them. By his ways we may understand his precepts, the ways he requires us to walk in; and his promises and purposes. He always has been full of compassion. How unlike are those to God, who take every occasion to chide, and never know when to cease! What would become of us, if God should deal so with us? The Scripture says a great deal of the mercy of God, and we all have experienced it. The father pities his children that are weak in knowledge, and teaches them; pities them when they are froward, and bears with them; pities them when they are sick, and comforts them; pities them when they are fallen, and helps them to rise; pities them when they have offended, and, upon their submission, forgives them; pities them when wronged, and rights them: thus the Lord pities those that fear him. See why he pities. He considers the frailty of our bodies, and the folly of our souls, how little we can do, how little we can bear; in all which his compassion appears.

Are we there yet?

It's been a long wicked winter...but spring is in the air !!

Terry is in the warm sunny Bahama Islands...on a much deserved break....then comes graduation in May......time flies !!

It seems like soon we won't need to worry about health insurance....will people learn to trust God Less?

Luke 18
1 Jesus used this illustration with his disciples to show them that they need to pray all the time and never give up. 2 He said, "In a city there was a judge who didn't fear God or respect people. 3 In that city there was also a widow who kept coming to him and saying, 'Give me justice.' 4 "For a while the judge refused to do anything. But then he thought, 'This widow really annoys me. Although I don't fear God or respect people, 5 I'll have to give her justice. Otherwise, she'll keep coming to me until she wears me out.'" 6 The Lord added, "Pay attention to what the dishonest judge thought. 7 Won't God give his chosen people justice when they cry out to him for help day and night? Is he slow to help them? 8 I can guarantee that he will give them justice quickly. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"

+++++++++++++++++++++++++
Isaiah 44

1 But now listen, my servant Jacob, Israel, whom I have chosen.
2 The LORD made you, formed you in the womb, and will help you. This is what the LORD says: Don't be afraid, my servant Jacob, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
3 I will pour water on thirsty ground and rain on dry land. I will pour my Spirit on your offspring and my blessing on your descendants.
4 They will spring up with the grass as poplars spring up by streams.
5 One person will say, "I belong to the LORD." Another will call on the name of Jacob. Another will write on his hand, "The LORD's," and he will adopt the name of Israel.
6 The LORD is Israel's king and defender. He is the LORD of Armies. This is what the LORD says: I am the first and the last, and there is no God except me.
7 If there is anyone like me, let him say so. Let him tell me what happened when I established my people long ago. Then let him predict what will happen to them.
8 Don't be terrified or afraid. Didn't I make this known to you long ago? You are my witnesses. Is there any God except me? There is no other rock; I know of none
