I came away from the conversation feeling a little uneasy....I woke up this morning and it was still on my mind.....so I thought about it some more.
I had a professor who came into class one day and quickly got everyones attention by saying this:
"Whenever you begin to think of truth, you are in error!"
....I never forgot that. Essentially he was saying I/we should be careful of beleiving something is true about a person without realising that my/our own thinking ALWAYS has some kind of bias or error or evil motivation or at the very least I must admit that I myself am just as capable of evils.
So what is evil? and why I was wrong to say someone is evil.
Satan said - you can be as God : knowing good and evil
The Genesis story suggests that the enticement that got the woman
in trouble with her husband (and God) was she was decieved into
thinking that she could have the ability to decide if something was
good or evil
Jesus - resist not evil
James - resist the devil
Paul - we are not to fight people, we are fighting powers dark
neither give place to the devil
these are ALL bible quotations
When I say that someone is evil
I am not saying anything about that someone
I am saying something about myself
So, today I must confess my
sin of evil speaking; then
my uneasiness goes away!!!
Jesus said I must love these people
I must love my enemies.....
it is very HARD....no impossible
without supernatural help !!!
EVIL IS CREATED
AND SUSTAINED
BY SPEAKING
and so
The tongue is that kind of flame. It is a world of evil among the parts
of our bodies, and it completely contaminates our bodies. The tongue
sets our lives on fire, and is itself set on fire from hell. James 3:6 <-click it
the following is from a google search on "prayer let us confess our sins"
http://www.stjohnabingdon.org/Sample%20Worship%20Bulletin.pdf
Let us confess our sins in the presence of God and of one another.
Gracious God, we would not be here if you had not
chosen to touch our lives with your love in the person of
Jesus Christ. Yet we confess that we sometimes have
trouble in our decision-making when we're faced with
questions of whether we wholeheartedly serve you or
not. Often, we're tempted to put others before you as
first in our lives, especially when we're faced with
choices which affect how we live as your people.
Forgive us when the choices we make reflect not your
glory, but our own selfishness. Forgive us when the
choices we make revolve around judging or condemning
others without first hearing their stories. Forgive us
when the choices we make contribute to our own
prosperity and well-being while ignoring the needs of
others. Forgive us when the choices we make diminish
our awareness of you in the midst of those who suffer.
Strengthen us where we are weak with the renewing
power of your Spirit, so that the choices that we make
clearly reveal our identity as your people, and as
followers of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Out of love for the world, God chose to share our humanity
in the person of Jesus Christ, that whoever believes in him
should not perish but have eternal life. The good news
therefore is this: In Jesus Christ we are accepted, loved, and
forgiven. Amen.
