One day I went to the home of Shemaiah, son of Delaiah and grandson of Mehetabel. Shemaiah who was confined to his house, said, "Let's meet in the house of God, inside the temple, and close the temple doors. Some men are coming at night to kill you." 11 But I asked, "Should a man like me run away? Would a man like me go into the temple to save his life? I won't go." 12 Then I realized that God hadn't sent him. Instead, Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him to prophesy against me. 13 He was hired to intimidate me into doing this so that I would sin. Then they could give me a bad reputation in order to discredit me. 14 Nehemiah prayed, "My God, remember what Tobiah and Sanballat have done. Also, remember the female prophet Noadiah and the rest of the prophets who have been trying to intimidate me." There are no new devils. The old tricks are stil being used. I was thinking about the fact that we live in the ENCLOSED world of our mind. No one has access to you unless you OPEN UP.
In todays story (Neh 6:10-14) we 'see' Shemaiah as a CLOSED person. (v10) having a hidden diabolic agenda. the plot thickens as he trys to influence Nehemiah. ..but in Nehemiah's mind / world.. there is some serious questioning going on: Should a man like me run away? His answer is decisive and forceful. he would not enter Shemaiah's CLOSED WORLD There are people who are HIRED and assigned specifically to intimidate you and to stop you from acheiving God's purpose in your life. Can you spot them as quickly as Nehemiah? Will you react as forcefully as Nehemiah? 12 Then I realized that God hadn't sent him. Instead, Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him to prophesy against me. 13 He was hired to intimidate me into doing this so that I would sin. Then they could give me a bad reputation in order to discredit me. WOW !!! So these are the people to look out for: 1. Shemaiah - the hireling, his motto: SHOW ME THE MONEY 2. Tobiah and Sanballat - the instigators, manipulating behind the scene 3. Noadiah - the female prophet Do you have a purpose, a God given mission for your life? |
