The Game

OUTLINE

1. PLAYING THE DEALT HAND

I can only use what I have

2. YOU CANNOT PLAY THE OPPONENTS HAND

To covet or be jealous or to envy even wishful thinking can only hurt me

3. PLAY ONLY WHEN IT IS YOUR TURN

Timing is everything, play 'to the whistle'

4. NEVER FORCE YOUR OPPONENTS HAND

            A game does not have to be a fight

5. ACCEPT THE CARDS YOU ARE DEALT

            Regret is a waste of energy

6. PLAY OUT YOUR HAND

            Finish the course, keep the faith

7. WIN GRACIOUSLY EVEN WHEN THE OPPONENT IS WINNING

            Graceful is about me, gracious is about others…don't be selfish.

O Jesus, I have promised to serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou forever near me, my Master and my Friend;
I shall not fear the battle if Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway if Thou wilt be my Guide.

O let me feel Thee near me! The world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle, the tempting sounds I hear;
My foes are ever near me, around me and within;
But Jesus, draw Thou nearer, and shield my soul from sin.

O let me hear Thee speaking in accents clear and still,
Above the storms of passion, the murmurs of self will.
O speak to reassure me, to hasten or control;
O speak, and make me listen, Thou Guardian of my soul.

O Jesus, Thou hast promised to all who follow Thee
That where Thou art in glory there shall Thy servant be.
And Jesus, I have promised to serve Thee to the end;
O give me grace to follow, my Master and my Friend.

O let me see Thy footprints, and in them plant mine own;
My hope to follow duly is in Thy strength alone.
O guide me, call me, draw me, uphold me to the end;
And then in Heaven receive me, my Savior and my Friend.

"I have promised to obey Your words." Psalm 119:57

O Lord, Lover of men, who forgives us our sins; Cleanse us of all that is base or selfish, and make us to be in all things thy servants, and the messengers of thy love. Amen.

    Grant, O Lord, that we may meet all difficulties and temptations with a steadfast heart, in the strength of thy indwelling spirit. Amen.

    Shield us, O God, from the darkness of soul which seeth thee not, and from the loneliness of heart which heareth not thy voice, and through life and in the valley of the shadow of death, forsake us not; for thy Name's sake. Amen.

Prayers

IN THE MORNING

    Into thy hands, O God, I commend myself this day. Let thy presence be with me even to its close, that at night I may again give thanks unto thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

    Grant, O Lord, that I may not be ashamed to confess the faith of Christ crucified, and manfully to fight under his banner against sin, the world, and the devil, and to continue Christ's faithful soldier and servant unto my life's end. Amen.

    Defend, O Lord, this thy Child with thy heavenly grace; that I may continue thine for ever; and daily increase in thy Holy Spirit more and more, until I come unto thy everlasting kingdom. Amen.

AT NIGHT

    The God of peace himself sanctify me wholly, and may my spirit and soul and body be preserved entire without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

    Abide with us, O Lord, this night, and with all the sick and sorrowful, the forsaken and weary, to strengthen and to cheer, and to give rest. Amen.

    Thine is the day, O Lord, and thine the night; Grant that the sun of righteousness may abide in our hearts, to drive away the darkness of evil thoughts; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
